Has the car been mapped? Its normally the induction kit causing an airflow change at the air flow metre that causes a problem. A map is the safest and best way to cure your problem and may even give more power. Certainly it will be a better drive through the midrange

That will be the problem. Trouble with the 97/98 cars is the o/e ecu cant be mapped yet. Gonna need an afternarket ecu. Apexi, simtek or similar

Wouldnt have been anywhere near standard and would have been either a bad rolling road or running like a bag of spanners, not a chance on the standard ecu!

OP, if the car is running lean its not very good, actually its very bad, it means the car is probably detting at some point, det kills engines, your options are to revert back to standard and save the engine or get an after market ecu fitted and mapped, which should save the engine, otherwise it will go bang at some point due to it leaning out

it will make more power being lean.. the best power on petrol is leaner than would be sensible to run, it will melt a piston or exhaust valvee due to heat, the induction kit, decat and possible old fuel pump will cause it to run leaner.

Refit original air box if you have it or get it mapped

Simon

V3 sti were 280 ps or 276 bhp when run on japanese 100 ron fuel.As an example my postman has had a P1 for 9 years. He has run the car on shell ultimax(v power) for the last 9 years, when he took it to scoobyclinic in 2003 for a remap, the car was initially running 256 bhp,and produced 292 bhp after the remap.
