Problem with AN-6 push on fittings with fuel line!!
Following what other people have done (with regards to AN fittings), I purchased a couple of AN-6 push on fittings for my Bosch 044 fuel pump. However, yesterday while installing the swirl pot and fuel lines, I could NOT get the fuel line to go over the AN-6 fittings, nor could I get it to go over the push on fittings of the swirl pot!
(FYI car is a MY2008).
The fuel line is 5/16" (I assume that's ID, I don't have it with me so can't check).
I held the line in boiling water for 1 minute, that still didn't help.
When I look at the following wiki page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN_thread
... it tells me that AN-6 is actually 3/8" ID!!! Which would explain why I can't fit the hose over it. So that got me thinking:
Help!

- do I really need AN-5 fittings? (wiki says that's 5/16" ID!)
- is my fuel line wrong i.e. actually 5/16" OD instead of ID?
- do I need to use more force / silicon grease?
Help!

The "dash" number is 1/16ths ID, so you'll need 6/16 lines for a -6 connector.
Depending on how flexible your lines are, you may or may not be able to stretch them over your -6 connectors.
You could get a 10 to 8mm hose joiner, perhaps. I'll be doing the same with my own Bosch pump at some time

Well, from research it seems AN-5 is the correct fitment for the OE fuel line (i.e. 5/16"). However AN-5 is hard to come by, so most people go for -6, looks like it's a case of warming up the fuel line, applying white grease to the barb / connector while using a vice like grip and applying plenty of pressure.
I'll give it a go on Saturday morning...
