I run without dump valve with a FMIC. It gives off the best sound of all, lovely chatter noise. Far far better than any dump valve.
Some say it can damage the turbo and with old VF series turbos I would agree, but the TD series turbos are fine.
I've got an Sti v3/4 recirc on my VF35 and front mount. Would crap myself running without it as I dont think it would do my VF much good like Matty says.
Mitsubishi turbo's are tough little units, and you may just get away with it on the TD05 without snapping off fins, however it WILL cause premature wear to the thrust bearing as the shock loads place all the stress on it.
Generally speaking, larger frame turbo's cope better with no dump valve as they rotate at much lower speeds so the shock loads aren't such a worry. I wouldn't advise it with smaller VF series or TD04's so much though.
I have a fmic with a hks ssqv2 fitted and under low boost i get compressor surge and a lovely chatter almost sounds like the car is laughing at me but at higher boost level dumps as should kind of the best of both worlds. thats with td05 and touch would turbo has been fine for 3 years now
i've got a Subaru impreza HKS super flow Induction kit and i just removed the and blocked off the control pipe so it didnt dump when i come off the loud peddle
would a TD05 16g be okay with out running a DV? also with a FMIC. . . Old imperza with tdo4 had no dump valve (Bottom end went not long after) and sounded the mut's nut's

Any turbo without a DV will suffer from accelerated wear, so be aware of this, but a Td05 is a pretty tough turbo so it stands as good a chance as any.
