Default A question for the boffins regarding ECU's

Alright guys,

So today i had a VF28 fitted and the car is currently running low boost around 0.9 bar via an MBC. Im heading down to see a local subaru specialist on Monday to check AFR and det and ofcourse untill then im staying well off boost so nothing blows up.

My car is a my00 uk turbo, 440 Injectors, decat, standard Airbox.

My question is this:

The current ECU on the car is the AE802 Y7 which is known to run rich and with less advanced ignition then the 99 and earlier ECU's.

I have been offered by various people an ECU from the my00 sti which is designed around the vf28 turbo and 440 injectors however the heads and cams dont match and will be running more advanced ignition then the 802.

Which ECU do you think is likely to run better on the car untill i remap? The one running rich and less advanced but designed for the td04 OR the STI ecu with the wrong heads?

Bit of a tough question i know but i figured id ask and maybe get a bit of a dicussion going!

Thanks

Not really a tough question to be honest,The sti ecu will plug into your harness but won't run correctly as some of the pins/sensors are in different locations iirc. Your 802 (y7) ecu is designed for uk cars and uk fuel so stick with that till the remap. Once your car has been mapped you should see between 300- 330 bhp depending on mods, etc.
The earlier 99 ecu(E3) will give the same power as your Y7 after a remap, with the only real difference is the E3 sustaining torque slightly higher in the rev range than the Y7.

Also if you plan on driving it for a while before your remap, you might be better off taking the T piece off that joins the pipe from the compressor nipple to the one going to the wastegate actuator, and joining them together with a short piece of pipe. This will allow it to run on wastegate pressure opposed to your boost solenoid, so no chance of it over boosting and causing engine damage.
If you have not got a 3 port boost solenoid, it might be worth getting one , to get the best out of the remap imho.
Either way it is a good choice of turbo and will improve your midrange significantly over the td04 .
