Default 340bhp from an MY00 Turbo 2000

I'm chasing a target of 340bhp/340lb-ft on an MY00 Turbo 2000. Have I got everything covered below?

- K&N 57i induction kit (MAF friendly) w/ cold air feed from the wing
- Full turbo-back decat + decat up-pipe
- TD05 turbo w/ turbo blanket
- FMIC
- Standard 440 injectors w/ fuel pressure regulator
- Walbro 255 fuel pump
- NGK PFR7B plugs
- Headers, up-pipe, downpipe all heatwrapped
- Port the headers, up-pipe and downpipe??
- 3-port boost solenoid
- 99ron fuel
- Remap

Is there anything I'm missing as far as power goes? I'll be uprating the handling/braking to work alongside these mods too.

I know the gearbox may end up becoming an issue, but I never launch the car and I'll look after it the best I can

What TD05? 16G or 18G?

I doubt you will get like for like bhp and torque. Think you will be looking at about 325-335bhp and 290-300lb-ft.

I have a similar setup on my P1 but I have a VF34 turbo and I only get 335bhp. FMIC is definitely the way to go. I made the mistake of going for the STI8 TMIC but I'll be changing that next year. With about 15% meth I am getting 356bhp and 325lb-ft but I have 550cc injectors to cope with the extra flow.

FMIC over STI8 TMIC
Port headers over tubular (GT Spec) for the power you want
Scrap the MAF completely and get a Simtek (Vpower + vpower/meth map)
Uprated clutch (exedy pink will do)
3 inch turbo back, may as well to future proof

sc36 would be better option and will easily do the 340 with improved spool over a 18g or 20g.

FMIC is a must at that level

Yes either that or a used VF34 (about £300). My VF34 spools crazy fast.

cool just noticed.

VF34 get me 334bhp on vpower without any problem. Day to day I run some meth in the tank as well. Two reasons, 356bhp/325ftlb and at 60p a litres it's helping me to beat the ever increasing fuel prices.

yeah mine maxed at 340, but i;ve not dfone headers or inectors. it was about 4 years ago now it was fitted and its dropped to about 325 since then, but it ran the same on a sc36 as a trial so looks like its showing its age and the 90k its done lol

Your injectors will be mega close to maxing out at that bhp ,my MY00 is running 330/326 on a vf28 and both turbo & injectors pretty close to the limit.

Cheers for the help. It's cleared up a few things that were niggling me.

Is there anything I could do to bump it up to around 320 lb/ft? I think my original goal of 340 lb/ft would be pushing it too far with the gearbox.

Would there be any point going back to the standard airbox w/ uprated panel filter at this power output? I really don't like the idea of induction kits and I'd prefer to keep the standard cold air feed.

Would I have any issues with the airbox getting in the way of the FMIC pipes?

EDIT: The standard UK airbox is apparently good for 350bhp.

Taken from Andy Forrest's website about the Classic STi:

Level 4 400-420 bhp

'Note The V 5/6 STI/P1 Gearbox is stronger than the UK or previous versions however Level 4 + Power may shorten the life of the transmission this will depend on type of use and driving style.'

The general opinion is that UK Turbo boxes are OK up to about 330-340 torque.

I wouldn't say a uk box was ok for that. I would say 300bhp max

There was one on here not long back, an MY99 uk car that was running standard power (215bhp, 214lbs torque) that ate its gearbox, so 330-340lbs.... nah

I should really rephrase what I wrote. I meant, from what I've read, they're were generally OK until about 330ish assuming it's well cared for, not launched etc.

But reading the above has definitely made me think WTF?!

Dont know about uk boxes being trashed above 300bhp,as my 99 car made 316 bhp with135k on the clock and was fine, and there are many scoobs on here running over 300 bhp still running std internals & gearbox. My current car has 330 bhp and has run this for 17 months still on uk gearbox & clutch and no such problems at the momment. Iirc i think that 350 lb/ft of torque and above will destroy a uk box.

How a gearbox lasts is down to how the car is driven. My first box went(3rd gear destroyed) @ approx 300bhp and I was doing 30mph at the time. The second one went running my current spec, goin through a chicane on track flat out in 3rd. Once again 3rd destroyed. My car has a hard life therefore I don't expect a standard box to last too long however treated with respect I'm sure a decent box could last quite well. All IMO

Quick question.

Am I better off with 440 injectors w/ a Fuelab fuel pressure regulator OR just go with 550 pink STi injectors from a Newage?

Am I trying to get too much out of the 440's to be considered safe?

550s froma newage wont fit mate you need phase 2 550s for a classic and yes will be better than 440s but you will probably want a fuel reg anyway

UPDATE.

325bhp/320lb-ft

- Standard airbox w/ uprated panel filter + cold air feed
- TD05 16g/18g OR VF23/28 + turbo blanket
- FMIC w/ heatwrapped 'cold side' pipe
- 440 injectors w/ aftermarket FPR
- Walbro 190 fuel pump
- NGK PFR7B spark plugs
- Headers, de-catted up-pipe + downpipe all heatwrapped

- 3-port boost solenoid
- Remap w/ Tesco Momentum

================================================== ===

Right, another quick question.

After a bit of reading, it seems the Walbro 255 might be a bit too powerful for the power I'm after. I want to keep the standard 440's and the OE FPR if possible, but I've read numerous threads about the 255 overpowering the OE FPR and overfuelling.

Would the standard STi/P1 fuel pump be more suitable? (I'm assuming it's more capable than the UK Turbo one?)

After a quick search. There was a really good post by Harvey about even the 190l/h pumps overpowering the FPR but I can't seem to find it.

Those posts are referring more to a car that has an uprated pump pre-remap. As is stated by JGM in the last post, you can map around it so using the standard FPR is fine. I have one on my MY00 running 330bhp and it runs fine.
