Default 1996 wrx v-limited hesitating in 3rd 4th 5gear dropping boost

hi thought id give this a try and see if anyone can give me some info, ive got a 1996 wrx v-limited

the problme im having seems to be when the cars been running for a while and you floor it in 3rd gear it seems to go to 80mph then starts holding back and the boost gauge goes crazy going up and down, and if you put it in 4th gear it just starts spluttering and same in 5th,but seems to be ok in 1st and 2nd gear.

i thought maybe crap fuel but ive ran the tank down and filled it up with v-power and its still the same.

any info would be much appriciated cause its driving me crazy

its got a td05 16g turbo
hks filter
dump valve
full s/s exhaust

any info would be great,cheers

Hey mate, My buddy had the same on weekend and it was found to be a dodgy coil pack. Was fine on normal driving, but then when under load it would run like poo. It was also an intermitant fault just to be more frustrating .......
Check plugs first then coils.
Good luck matey

Sounds like your overboosting and the ecu is trying to compensate.
What other mods do you have (mapped etc?) and I would give the boost solenoid a clean out.
You also wont get overboosting in 1st and 2nd as you dont get full boost in those 2 gears

It can be chipped, though I would suggest looking to see what ecu is in there and then opening it up to see if there is a piggy back chip fitted.

Boost droping, broken Dump Valve !, ignition dosent drop boost instantly. Blank the Dump valve off and take it for a spin.

Ignition wont drop boost but the ecu will
Overboosting is like a fluctuation, on off on off etc, its where you hit the ecu set boost cut, can be caused by a few things, modifying a car thats been mapped but not remapped for those mods can cause it, the boost solenoid is normally the big culprit though, gets clogged up so a good clean can sort it out, after that its pipes etc for splits which can also cause it.
