Default Help please Headlight question

2002 sti bugeye, one of my headlights lens wasnt perfect so bought a replacement... Only problem is they are slightly diferent...

In the First pic is the orig. one.. 1,2,3 and 4 are the connectors.

In the second one conector 3 isnt there and 5 (pink cable) is an extra... goes to a small bulb, but cant be seen from the front, so no idea what this does...

Any ideas, other thing i have noticed is the new one says HID on the back whereas my orig. one doesnt.. am i right in saying the std sti's arnt hid, where as the new one is.

Lastly if i plug this in and its not compatable am i in danger of doing damage to loome, or would it just be a case of wouldnt work..

Help please!!!

The second is a JDM HID light and needs a ballast. The 2 lights you have are different and should not be fitted on the same car

You may not have had HIDs originally. Do your originals have the ballasts that are associated with HIDs? (A small box which the wiring goes through)

The filter arrived yesterday, many thanks mate.

Oh, and when you say the lens was not perfect, do you mean the plastic cover going milky? JonMc knows of a plastic polish that would do the job, please remind me Jon?

Here is an idea which Jon could help advise about. If it is the plastic cover which you describe as the lens, what about the old headlamp in the oven, another cheap bug headlight in the oven, then swap the fronts over.

Thats only if the burn mark is on the outer lens

As above then, try and transplant the cover off another headlamp, if they are the same.

I've not done it myself, but I understand 10 minutes at 200 degrees will soften the adhesive enough to allow the lens to be removed - oven gloves are a must though

First, ascertain that the front cover is the same on a bug normal headlight as it is on yours. Ask a friend in a bug to pop round to inspect, or just walk up to a random car to inspect(first option better on so so many different levels!). If it is, buy one on ebay, they should be about £20. Ensure the seller tells you the front is spotless, no point on scrimping if you are going to spot all the stone marks a week later. Then do the job, but start with the ebay cheapie, then if you bugger it up youve only lost the price of an ebay cheapie.

All you are doing is softening the adhesive - put it in for a couple of minutes and if it's not soft enough repeat until it is, toasted headlight avoided

anyway i have a spare set of headlights here if you want them and you can give it a go splitting them down, its dead easy and you can have them for FREE, i can post them down for you mate

yeah no probs mate, there just sat here doing nothing so they are yours if you want them, even if you just use them as practice lights to split down.
