Default removing aircon?

Whos done this then? Can it be done as a whole system by simply undoing it and removing the whole lot as one without having to have all the gas drained?

If so anyone got a guide or able to talk me through the steps?

by law you have to take the refrigerant out but as a refrigeration engineer i have to do a safe handling course and an f gas course to even be bale to handle the refrigerant, but how ever the amount in cars you would be fine with if it were to accidentally let it out, they sell the car gas in halfords which is wrong as i went to collage for years to be able to handle it, personally just cut the fridge pipe and remove the compressor (top right of engine) and any other connecting parts.

you have to release the gas.....remove plastic cover, slacken compressor belt tensioner, remove belt, remove pipe work (releasing the gas), unplug electric connector, remove compressor, replace plastic cover....could also remove A/C radiator...i left my one in...it acts as a sheild to protect the engine coolant radiator

if you pop in to a local garage that do aircon im sure they would evacuate the r134 for you for a small charge or free ,only takes about two mins to hook up and evacuate it.

They would reclaim the refrigerant but not for free as it requires a wast management number and that cost money, just let it go to atmosphere as it's only 50 odd grams,

correct i cant see why a air conditioning specialist wouldn't recover the gas for free after all that's the easy part he gets 500 +/-50 gram's for free and does not have to see you again.

Right reviving this guys at its this week i'm looking at doing it.
The car is a newage WRX, I've found and removed the aircon fuse to disable the system, i've popped over to my mates and had the refridgerant drained from the system.

Now i've got an empty system on the car. Question is how much of the pipework on the new age do people remove? How easy is the air con rad to remove, also there is pipework that runs under the battery tray and more along the bulk head, do people usually remove all of this? again how easy or anyone done it?

If its for weight reduction, the more the merrier. I never had it fitted to my MY00, so had some nice cable run grommets through the bulk head, so if you remove those pipes you get those back.

if you are going to remove it you need to remove everything from the engine bay and inside the cabin

Right now i've got the aircon pipe off the compressor and compressor out.

Anyone got a quick run through on easiest way/how to remove the aircon rad and all the piping into the cabin?

spot on Dooda! it costs the all important TIME and the consignment notation is a headache! also no engineer would want to use reclaimed gas(Unless it was R 22 that has been reprocessed! Man that **** costs bucks!!!) But accidental unavoidable loss is not that bad a crime!!! An also folks the gas in your air con R134 is the same propellant as in an asthma inhaler, so anyone with one of them is havin lungfuls everyday!!!! Camera lens cleaner is the same!!! Wat field U in Dooda???

You need to unbolt your coolant radiator(leave it piped up though) remove your grill then you can unbolt the air con radiator. Now the fun bit, its a very tight squize but you can pull it straight up. Just be carefull not to damage your coolant radiator. As for the rest of the pipe work, get the Tom snips out and chop that **** down in to foot lengths to make it easier to get out. Take it all the way back to the connector on the bulk head. Should only take about an hour.
