Default pre facelift bumper cutting for fmic

hi,im looking for any tips/advice on cutting the front bumper on a 1998 sti type r when fitting a fmic.
i know i will have to remove all the fins in the bumper,do these have to be cut out?i also want to leave the standard number plate in the original place.
any tips on the whole subject would be appriciated?
i realise its quite a time consuming job to get right....just like to know the best way to do the job before i get the bumper off and **** it up!
thanks

Maybe this will help

https://www.scoobynet.com/technical-...r-project.html

If you read through it you'll get to the bit where he shows you how he cut his bumper

The above, just to give you an idea. It's basically a case of cut some out, offer the bumper up, remove, cut - repeat until you're happy with it.

Do several trial cuts first and keep well inside the final cut line until you are confident with what you are doing and offer the bumper up to the final fit position after each series of cuts.
Take time to get trestles or similar that you can suitably rest and fix the bumper on.
Suitable cutting tool. We use air powered hacksaw or jigsaw.
Use a rasp to smooth off the edges when you are finished and you can fit edge trim available from Frosts or similar to make it really tidy.

Wasn't aware of that, Harvey. Sound advice.

Off to browse Frost's website....

Used a Dremmel on the one with the centre cut out, and used a grinder on the old bumper which is the closest one.

The centre is cut out to allow air to the bottom of the core;

Well that was the idea, anyway.
