Default Walbro feul pumps for 2005 wrx ??

Okay guys planning on having my 2005 wrx remapped fairly soon and one or two mappers have advised that upgrading the fuel pump on the standard 2005 uk wrx is a good idea, one or two Walbro fuel pumps on the go just now on scoobynet. anyone confirm exactly what model I require for the newage wrx ?? dont want to end up with one designed for the classic scooby !!

labour time for fitting ?? difficult job ??!!

I think the walbro 255 pump is the same for 01-07 wrx/sti cars. I bought mine from here, arrived yesterday.

Lateral Performance will be able to sort you out. They were doing a group buy not long ago for just over £60 - for that money I'd just buy new so you know what you're getting.
Labour time for fitting - maybe 30-45 mins for an experienced Subaru mechanic - easy job - you can do it yourself.

Incidentally, the box may say Sytec on it, but they're essentially the same kit, so don't worry if that's what you receive.

The box says Sytec but the pump inside has Walbro stamped on it

Ive used Lateral plenty of times, and labour is around 20min if you have done one before, and around 30-40mins if you havent but have the right tools.

Top of my head its:
Bottom of Rear seats out (3 x 13mm bolts)
Lift out rear back rest seat
Lift back carpet in boot
Disconnet battery
Undo Petrol cap
Remove cover plate in boot behind where rear seat was on Drivers side i think, its the oval plate (4 philips screws)
Undo all pipes (be carefull not to damage clips) and took under the panel slightly
Unclip electrical connetor ( I also taped up the end with insolation tape)
Undo all the little nuts around the edge (around 8 in total, and around 8mm)
Lift out the cage that holds the pump and rotate slightly to remove
Unclip pump from cage (pipe and rubber bung I think)
Remove OEM filter of the pump (small spring clip)
Fit New pump in same way, you may need to cut down the hose
Fit OEM filter, not the new filter if its Walbro..;. yes dont use new filter !
Reverse all the above.

One addition to Rob's list. Do the job in open air and not in garage due to petrol fumes.

I have changed fuel pumps at least 4 times and have never removed rear seat just use a small ratchet with pozi bit in it to remove covers and the pump lifts out easily with just a small twist as you lift it to get clearance from seat back. Only thing I reused my original pick up and bag filter as was told the ones that come with the pump are not as good as the subaru ones. Easy job to do.

Back breaking this way as there is no room to plonk your *** down

For the sake of litterally 2mins to remove the rear seats its a done deal for me.

3 Bolts un-done on bottom part of the seat in the footwell area and the bottom is out as one unit, then the back's leterally the same, I think there is some bolts at the bottom of the backs, and then simply lift out

Lets be honest getting the carriage out of the tank can be a struggle with the fuel lines being in the way and you need to rotate the carriage, so make things as easy as you can, so unless you under 5ft tall remove the seats

Rob
