removing aftermarket mocal cooler to standard
hi guys, when i purchased my car (a 2004 sti) it already ahd an aftermarket mocal oil cooler on it, i presume previous owner may have done a few track days.
I plan on doing none and general commuting and weekend blasts, i am having the cooler removed and the standard modine put back in the place, this is the right thing to do is it not? i very rarely see temps with the cooler over 80 degrees so i presume in fact having oil cool most of the time will probably do longterm damage? reassure me going back to normal is the best thing!?

it is a bit leaky from the filter aswell which i presume might be the sandwich plate as i had 2 new filters on it, but literally the oil temp never goes above 80 degrees really and thats on 10-50 fully synthetic

If you're worried I'd keep it but add the OE Modine back into the system - you can run both (I do) this will get your oil up to temp as quickly as std. but when the sandwich plate stat opens (80ish degrees) will allow flow to the air/oil cooler and therefore keep temps undercontrol. Given the cost of oil coolers I'd just get the modine replaced and keep the mocal cooler (as long as it's thermostatic).
