Default Oil consumption.

Hi,
I purchased a 06 impreza wrx about 6 weeks ago . After 2 weeks on checking the oil it appeared pretty empty below low on dipstick . So I topped up oil at garage about 3 litres to bring up to full . Then on a long trip bout 350 miles all is bone dry again. No engine noise, exhaust smoke ect. Or performance issues. Taking it into garage again Tom as is still under 60 day warranty. Any help appreciated so the garage don't fob me off as there is no way it should burn this amount . No visible leaks either.

Thanks

Gav

Welcome well it doesnt sound very promising the 2.5's are reknown for using oil but that is very excessive, normally means ringland failure or head gasket issues, both of which the 2.5's are suseptable to
What sort of mileage does the car have on her?

Tony

I seem to have the opposite problem with my 2.0l t. Since Jan its used hardly any oil, its still clean which puzzles me. It's going in for a service this week so ill find out if there's a blockage, I've not noticed any performance issues. Surely it can't survive 7 months on the same oil?

I had the same car 2006 wrx and unless the car was on really flat ground it always used to look like it was low!

I had to keep it in my garage overnight instead of my drive as it has a slight slope at the top if I wanted to check oil!

Hth

subarus get out clause with the 06 according to the manual is that "anything around 1 litre every 1000 miles should be seen as acceptable" yours seems way more than that. as said the 2.5s are known for their oil use

The oil has to be going somewhere. When my T-25 was drinking oil (a litre or more every fortnight) it was all over the tailpipe and the boot. Rebuild cured it but a drastic solution.

Hi Tony, the mileage is 43k. Hopefully will be resolved at garage under warranty as 3 litres every 1000 miles is ridiculous .

Is the dip stick in a scoob accurate? Mine seems different each time I check it, up & down.
One problem I have is my drive is on a slope so it's parked overnight front end lower, maybe 3 inch lower across the wheelbase (ish).
To get a better reading I have to warm it up, drive to my parents and leave it there for 3 hours to cool, is this enough to get a good reading on the dip?
Ps, it's a 2003 STI.

Cheers
John.
