Default Running & MAF Sensor issues

Hi all,

I have recently fitted a FMIC to my classic 1995 wagon. Prior to fitting, my car ran perfectly.

I needed to purchase a new induction kit as the hks mushroom fouls the bonnet.

I bought an apexi induction kit and fitted it, happy days. However, if I start the car it for 5 mins or so idles perfectly without the MAF clipped in.

If I plug the maf sensor in the car stalls almost straight away. Why is this?

I would leave it out, but after a while the idle goes abit lumpy and feels like crap to drive

Any ideas? PM or reply the thread if anyone can help!

Cheers

You probably need the map altering for the mods youve fitted. Is the new maf tube a bigger bore than you had?

I think the bores are very similiar sizes looking at them, I thought I may need a remap, but I really didnt think just swapping a top mount to a FMIC would make so much difference :/

In a lucky way, I have a Simtek ready to fit, so can lose the MAF altogether. However I still need to drive the car to Bob Rawle to get mapped Will it damage the car if I drive it without the maf plugged in?

If you think about how much extra air is in your front mount and pipe work compared to the top mount it id guess 50% at least more. Still i would have thought it would run though

It runs on idle almost fine, just after a while gets slightly out of rev sync. Yea I suppose the air ratio is amazingly different.

I think over time I mayve have accumulated some water in my turb entry possibly, as my dump valve is spraying some water out when i rev the engine. Cant see anything else causing it, and my turbo managed to fill up with water :/ so may have something to do with it running uneasy

Was the IC a new one ? , most pessure test with fluid , maybe thare is residual fluid in the IC. Tha car should run fine with the FMC, but dont put it on boost as it will def need remap. I expect there is a leak somewhere.

Yea was a brand new one. I have found the problem I think theres a stem on the induction elbow ( from the turbo to the first part of my induction kit ) that used to have the recirc in. Thats exposed and i think that's my problem.
I need to blank 2 pipes off on the apexi hardpipe too.

Wasnt sure it would be a problem, but apparently the complete circuit has to remain air tight. Makes sense I suppose

Yes has to be air tight or the maf cant measure the air being drawn in. Air coming in those holes is un measured
