Default any reason why two coiles would decide to die on a 1994 scooby wrx sti???

hi guys i have a 1994 scooby wrx sti facelift model and had a boost issue with it and now after solving that problem i have discovered a new one where when you 1st start it up in the morning it would splutter on light acceleration and then will kinda clear after its warmed up but will still have a slight splutter here and there. now i thought id check the individual coil packs and the ones closest to the front end of the car on either side were gone on i have changed them and will have to wait till tomorrow to see if it has made the problem go away but i am mainly wondering if anyone would know of any reason why this would happen?
