Have a MY94 WRX. On Sunday, I drove it to a friend's house. After 2 hours I went to start it and it wouldn't start, won't fire up, just turns over. Have had the diagnostics man out and 5 1/2 hours later and £120 he tells me it is the fuel pump which is not working - he sprayed carb cleaner through the carb and the car fired up and ran until he stopped spraying.
Is it possible that the fuel pump could have gone???? Could it be that my alarm system has immobilised the petrol pump??
Anyone else had this problem? Have had a friend who works for a Subaru dealership also bring out his diagnostics kit and initially had fault codes 31, 21 and 44 - do not know what code 44 is but after he zero'd the memory on the ECU there were no fault codes showing (have recently had a new temp. sensor (code 21).
HELLLLLLLP - female in need of advice. Does anyone know where the pump is situated to maybe get at it without having to remove the whole suspension, back axle etc.?
Thanks
Jo

It could be the alarm but doubt it... check to see if you are getting 12v at the pump... the pump is in the tank.. you can get to it from the boot... or under the seat.. may vary as mine is a 5dr think it is on the right when you look into the boot... under a black plastic lid... (Im sure someone will correct me on the left or right side..)

My 93WRX had a similar problem recently pulled up outside the house got back in and it wouldnt start. Got it trailered 40 miles to a dealer they advised as soon as they applied 12 v the petrol pump kicked back in to life and all was well.
5 days later it happened again. Got my dad to have a look at it , and the fuel pump was getting an intermitent signal . Took the pump apart but it was fine. It was the supply to the pump that was the problem. We ended up replacing the 12 v feed into the pump , after tracing it back. Its been fine ever since (touch wood!).
I think the original feed may have corroded , the wires appear to go underneath the car when it gets close to the pump itself.
Take great care though if you don't know what your doing around the fuel pump, take to it a specialist, you wouldn't want it to go up in smoke, I wouldn't have attempted it only we had prioir knowledge. They will no doubt be able to take the fuel pump out and check it. I would personally recommend that before simply buying a new pump, although I could be wrong. I was tempted to do that but it would have ended up being a waste of money.
What mileage has the car done ?
I was told by the original garage sometimes the relays can get stuck , i did replace the relays but it didnt make any diference.
It was really frustrating as you tend to loose confidence in the car .
Hope you sort it soon

Thanks all for your advice.
Lumby - sounds like it could be the same. Took the pump out last night, put a 12v feed to it and it ran like a dream. Put it back on the car and it fired up and ran ok. Went to start it this morning and it wouldn't go again. Have this morning purchased a 2nd hand pump and will be trying it later and resorting to wire replacement as next step.
