red stuff pads?
I have an 03 WRX and fitted new EBC grooved discs and the latest compound Redstuff pads. I would not describe them as sh*te though, however...........I feel there could be better pads to be had, again HOWEVER, not at the price the Redstuffs are! I was lucky to get these free as part of the trial many months ago. I was using Pagid Blues which are a superb pad, very dusty and dirty, but now cost me £180. I find the EBC a lot better for the money. When all said and done, I would not rate the Reds for fast and hard road driving as I would the Pagid's. Normal and some fast driving ok, hard braking, etc and repeated hard braking, nope, not the Reds.
EDIT: Just edited to to say, I forgot to mention I had my rears replaced as well with new EBC discs and Redstuff pads and the car definitely brakes better for that change. Before, it used to try and stand up on its nose and even felt like the rear was overtaking the front at times of hard braking. Now the car sits proper flat and just pulls up like it should do! LOL

jdm 2002 wrx
308 bhp
316 torque
subaru 4 pots
ebc ndx bluepads
6 months
around town with fast road
same time as pads
found them excellant from cold
I found Redstuff good when they were fitted, progressing to praying that I would stop at the end of our road when cold, got a little better once warm. Would I fit them again? Nope. Never.
this is something i dont understand really !

.my diesel van =oe great brakes
.mums micra=oe amazing brakes
.my first car , a peugeot 205 oe great brakes
.mgzr =oe great brakes
.escort = oe amazing brakes
.my old civic type r with after market discs and pads = crap!
.scooby redstuff discs and pads = terrible !!!!
and im not on about driving fast , just normal driving .
in my experience oe brakes are amazing ! yes they will wear out much quicker and look pants but they are alot cheaper ! and has a better pedal feel imo

As an all round pad the venerable DS2500 gets my vote.
Stops very well, resistant to fade, and not at all dusty relative to its performance prowess (unlike the mental amount you get with the PF97s I had fitted when I had the OEM Subaru 4-pots!).

who makes the ds2500 mate ?
They're not the most expensive - like PF01s, for example. But then they're not 'cheap' either.
Depending on caliper type/style, and therefore pad pattern, you're looking at a bracket of prices between c.£100 to £150.

i found red stuff pads rubbish! pedal had no feel atall, like i was using blocks of wood, they were noisey, pretty much nakerd the ebc discs aswell.
oh and i had a noise on the brakes, checked them and had brakes apart and found the pad material had fallen off the backing.that had happend on atleast one pad per corner. car has never been on a track either, although i do give it some but even so this is a 'peformance' pad isnt it??

Had redstuff pads in my 95 wrx classic and they were rubbish. Very scary when cold and fade quite quickly when going some.
Got Godspeed grooved disks with kevlar pads and totally different. They actually work! Good price too in the group buy section.
I thought bluestuff pads were the dogs dangly bits in the brake world, I nearly got them with the disks as an upgrade, glad I did'nt now.

I was trying to find out in the Aztec Performance group buy section if the £99 Kevlar Pads and discs were any good - no replies so far but I'm sure somebody rated them very good?

The Ferodo DS2500's are a good pad , but I think the bluestuff NDX are a better all round pad , the DS2500's also cost more.
To the OP , have you fitted the NDX , or the old bluestuff compound , and do you know if your calipers are working properly with no sticking pistons ? this is a big problem with the Subaru 4 pots , the chrome on the pistons is very thin and wears off causing them to go rusty and stick or sieze , which stops them working properly.
Comparing the Impreza brakes against a lot of cars , you would think all the others are sharper as most cars seem over servo'd , the Impreza isn't , so will always feel less powerful initially , with hard use , and with me rallying , I preferred them like that as I found them more controllable.
The offer we have on our grooved front discs and kevlar sport pads for £99 is a bargain in comparison , this setup would suit probably 90% of owners , great for normal to fast road use , hard road use , and track days would require a better pad.
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

The brembo's would be much better , discs pads and calipers are much larger , and with brakes , its pretty much bigger the better , you just have to make sure they fit under your wheels , as they touch the spokes on most wheels as they are a lot chunkier than the Subaru 4 pots

Virtually everyone I know who has used EBC Green-, Yellow- and Redstuff have complained how crap they are.
Esp. my mate who is hard on his brakes and has experimented loads with different pad compounds throughout the years. Seems he's not the only one who thinks this though...............
I've never bought any due to this welter of negative feedback, so can't comment.

I do find it odd how EBC pads always seem to get mixed reviews. They have been making pads for ages so you would think they would be on the ball. It is also really confusing for a buyer with new pad componds coming out with the same name. For example, I used Red Stuff a few years ago and they were sh*te. I "think" there is a new compond out or maybe a new, new compond, but I'm not sure so won't be buying them again. Poor brand managment I think.
Oh and I'm now very happy with my Godspeed kevlar pads
