Default Morettes

On a classic do the lamps work alongside each other or is one lamp for high beam and one for low beam.

As above, the larger has an H4 bulb for main/dip, the smaller an H2 for an extra main beam.

That's on the genuine Morettes, the copies are often different, and some use non-e-marked lamp units.

That's right.

You pays your money: cold air feed, or see better at night.

no the smaller inner lamps are spots so putting cold feed in only disables the one spot the two outer lamps are both main/dip beams so work as normal you just lose the extra spot beam penertration, you can compensate with an hid set up as i have

Wrong!

First of all the inners aren't "spots" at all, they are driving lights, and as such, main beam. The OP asked if removing one loses you a main beam. Yes, it does, one of four.
A tru "spot" light will have clear glass, NOT the fluted lens of the Morette inner.

You can, of course, fit HID, but the H4 HID is awful. Just plain awful. In fact the one I saw, from a well-known seller, had a WORSE main beam than with full halogen Morettes. The focus was rubbish.
