Default Do Bug Eye STI's have DCCD or DCCD-A?

Hi folks,

I'm currently trying to decide on which car I want next. I wasn't going to go for a Scooby but having thought a bit more about it, I realised I'd be interested in a Bug Eye STI, providing I can set it to a strong rear bias.

So did the STI of this vintage come with the DCCD or DCCD-A? And if so, how strongly can it be set to a rear bias?

Many thanks!

Some did but they were Japanese domestic market cars (MY02 Spec C or the MY01 RA), it was just a plain dccd and not the auto mode version on the later cars.
Look in tech archive under transmission info

Thanks, I've just had a look in there and it says JDM Impreza WRX STi MY03 has DCCD. It also lists the same as not having had it, so was the non auto DCCD an option on JDM STI's?

Yes, there were 2 versions of the standard STI in 2003/2004, one was the GL which had the A-DCCD and one was the KL that didnt have the A-DCCD.
From 2005 all the JDM STI's inc the Spec C had it standard.

I thought MY03 would be the Bug Eye though? When you say 2003/2004, that makes me think you might be talking about a blob eye? Sorry if I am getting the wrong end of the stick, it's a little bit confusing!

2003 cars are blobs, 2001-2002 are bug.
No bug had a dccd-a box, only the 2001 STI RA and 2002 Spec C (both bugs) had dccd boxes standard, the S202 (MY02 car) didnt even though its based on a Spec C.

Ah OK, that clears up the MY stuff!

Did any of the Bugs have the DCCD as an option? In other words, could i find one that does have it, that's neither an RA or a Spec C?

NO ! Unless retro-fitted like mine.

35:65 split upto the hawkeye, which is closer to 40:60 as mine has fitted.

Righto. What kind of job is retrofitting, and what sort of money do the parts go for?

Well your going to get the money back on your standard gearbox, the rear diff may be the same, but you have to find a box to start with, that could be 2k out of your pocket, though you would recoup most of that back selling your gearbox.
You would be best just buying a car equipped with a dccd or an a-dccd box (the twin scroll JDM's are really good ) but its up to you.

Yeah finding one already done would be much less hassle.

Strangely, I massively prefer the Bug Eye to the Blob.

Reviving an OLD thread here I know.

Just started looking into a Subaru for my next car. And what a mine field😂

So far I decided it needed to be a JDM car, regular STI as I'm not sure my missus would appreciate me paying for a spec-c😂

Finally decided on the bug over the blob, then realised the lack of DCCD. I'm not going to be tracking it (also not modifying beyond exhaust-intake-maybe remap) but I am very heavy footed. I still like the blobeye and if the DCCD makes all the difference then I'll go for it.

Kind of hoping someone's going to say naa just get a bugeye it's just as good......Help

in the majority of conditions then it will make little difference as to which version you have............

if it was destined for track or competition use then you may see the benefit

I may be wrong here but the bug sti doesn’t seem to be going for silly prices yet, you can still get a good one for 7-8 k which is not that much considering was it comes with standard eg. Brembos, 6 speed , strong engine. Go for one mate irrespective of the dccd, it’s one hell of a car.

When I was looking I thought the DCCD (or lack of) would be a deal breaker but as said above it’s not something you’d use on the road daily. I’ve since bought a JDM bug STI and have never even thought about it not having DCCD until I read this thread.

Guess that's decision made then. I didn't think it would make a massive difference and as was said, they're still available under 10k which is a big factor.. Plus I just love the bugs controversial looks.

Cheers everyone
