Default Where to look for possible air leak?

My '03 WRX with VF35 isn't boosting properly. Should be around 1.2 bar of boost at 6400 RPM I think but is only making around 0.86 bar. No strange noises or other symptoms and drives fine if not very quickly.

my vf43 is having same probs, boosts to 1.5bar makes torque then kinda fizzles out to 0.9 bar at full revs. My mapper checked for leaks and bypassed the boost controller to see if that helped, nothing, wastegate was fully shut as far as we could tell.
We came to the conclusion that new turbo is in order, sounds like your having the excact same problem. Hope this helps somewhat

You can use brake cleaner around the inlet manifold to see if the revs go up and try and locate an air leak.

Can you expand slightly for the less technically able?
Might well be the turbo though.

Get a can of brake cleaner and with the engine running direct
The spray around areas where leak may be from. If the revs rise then it is because the vac has sucked the bc in and is using it as fuel thus revs increase when spraying round the manifold it's worth pushing and pulling gently to see if that affects it

After reading the op again
If it has a leak it is probably only under positive pressure
So the vac leak test won't really help
Is the wastegate actuator moving through it's full range as if it's not seating properly it will not spool up properly due to eg's bypassing impellor and straight into downpipe
Trying moving the actuator rod with a set of grips it should move with a little effort
