Default Standard BOV Noise

Hi All

I have a UK 2006 2.5 WRX 32,000 miles which I have owned from new.

Recently I have noticed a noise coming from the engine bay that is the same as aftermarket BOV's but much much quieter. I get the whoosh sound when I back off the accelerator when when the turbo is spinning. I have checked the pipes going to the Standard BOV and they seem ok.

I am taking the car to my mechanic later this week but wondered if anyone else can shed any light on this.

John

It's normal. I get it on my STI. I believe it is more apparent once you start tuning the car, ie raise boost slightly but it will still be present on a totally stock car. I posted a message about this when I first got my car a few months ago. It does sound like a very faint after market "vent to atmosphere" bov but it's not. The stock recirculating one still makes a small noise. Nothing to worry about.

Wait until you are running 400+, with a decent induction kit, (and no MAF). Even the recirc valve makes a fair noise!

Matth76 thanks that is nice to know. I did have a remap done a year ago and have only just noticed the noise.

Alcazar have done a few minor mods and and getting 300 lb ft on a dyno. The only other mod I might do is sports cat so no chance of getting anywhere near 400 hp.
