Default Buying a ECU with Ecuteck license.

I recently bought a P1 ecu with ecuteck licence - i gather the lic stays on the ecu and remaps can be done without the need of a fresh lic.
I've also heard of ecu's being locked.
Has anyone had experience of this and anyone know of any open source software that can confirm theres a lic on it.
Cheers

Any friendly Ecutek mapper can replace the current map from scratch without deleting the licence, if locked the map can only be altered by the original mapper.
It is also my understanding that OS mappers can alter maps too !

But I may be proven wrong !
