Default Meths and fuels .... mappers knowledge please????

Im soon to be getting one of my available maps set to a meths mix. As well as this being for performance, i also am well aware its going to save a fair bit every year in fuel costs. This got me wondering if anyone has done back to back mapping of 95RON plus meths against vpower plus meths????? As if the presence of meths fights det over and above what the vpower additives do, is paying the extra for vpower over 95RON worth doing?

I did some quick calculations and it seems using 95+20% meths would save me about £600 a year over just vpower.... thats almost enough to cover the insurance!

I dont doubt that vpower plus meths will see better results than 95 plus meths, but im guessing it wont be as great a loss as pure vpower over pure 95RON.... hope this makes sense to somebody in the know.

litres to fill up 50
miles to fill up 250
miles per year 15000
tanks per year 60

meths
cost £0.70
Ratio 0.2

(sorry, this next bit was copied straight from Excel and the formats gone screwy!!!)

£/l £/fill £/year saving over vpower

vpower £1.43 £71.50 £4,290.00
95RON £1.36 £68.00 £4,080.00 £210.00

v+m £1.28 £64.20 £3,852.00 £438.00
95+m £1.23 £61.40 £3,684.00 £606.00

Default better off drinking the meths!

Try 100mls pure acetone per 45 litres instead. I am getting 3-5 more mpg and loads more torque.
If you search the internet for acetone in gasoline you will get plenty of data from people who have been doing it for long enough to show no harm and positive benefits.

This is something Graham (enginemapper) and I have been discussing, we may try it on our project car at some point, a finger in the air guess would be that you should get better performance than 100% V power and a reduced fuel bill, a win win I'd say.

im not sure if you save that much more by using meth.

yes it is cheaper than the petrol that it replaces

but you need to inject more fuel when using meth, same as e85.

when i ran a 10% mix, on v-power my injectors were fine, but with the meth they were maxed out.

iam running a 20% meth + vpower mix and car seems nice and happy , i get about 9-10 miles extra per tank ( not much i know ) , but extra performance and meth is only 69p a ltr compared to 1.42 for vpower so saving cash there as well

WMS .... look forward to seeing the results of this! :-)

Ian, i think thats to be expected! As the meth is fighting det it should be getting more out of the cylinder and therefore able to take advantage of more fuel.

Pramas, i think youve hit the nail on the head there. The major saving is the amount of expensive vpower you can replace with cheap meths! (ive found it for 51p by the way at DTchemicals). This is why the 100ml of acetone ... although by the sounds of it good for performance .... wont displace any fuel costs other than improved economy ....... wonder if i could use both??? haha, now that would be a complicated process every time i went to fill up!
