Version 3/4 EJ20 Block into 2003 STi
Just a quick one, will a version 3/4 EJ20 block fit into a 2003 'Blobeye' STi with standard heads?
Also does the 2003 STi have a the nitrated crankshaft?
Cheers, Mark

Anyone for this one? Its just I've got a forged EJ20 block and I'm after a newage Impreza... So would be hoping this block would just be a direct replacement for the block on an 03 STi without any modifications... Obviously will be using standard 03 STi heads

No to the nitrided crank as standard on the '03 STi Mark.
You can use your forged Version 3~4 bottom end with the '03 STi AVEX heads - depending on the compression height and piston bowl volume of your forged pistons, would imagine you would have to use a 1.1mm thick head gasket to keep the Static CR somewhere near to where it should be.

Thanks for the reply Mick.
Engine was rebuild using wiseco pistons (92mm) and has 8.29:1 CR... Fitment wise, it'll be a direct replacement though?
And all running gear, 6 speed etc will be okay?
Cost wise for mechanic to do this job, rough idea of cost or hours?

The early block will fit ok, it will only have 4 bolts holding the box on, the main problem is the bottom bolt for the starter motor, your car has a bolt going through and into the block, the early block won't have that. They way I get around this is too tap a 12mm thread into the gearbox and use a countersunk allen bolt. Ue the std 0.6mm headgaskets, the differnece in compression is the extra cc'c in the new age heads (+2cc each).

Nice one mate, thank you very much... So when I've got the block fitted, I was going to retain my current headers and uppipe (which are ported and are currently attached to my early forged block). In doing this will I be able to retain the newage turbo?
