Question Confusing non start problem.

I have a classic 95 wrx that is failing to start.
Ignition is fine, Fuel pump primes, relays click, injectors squirt, all but one coil sparks though. Checked the rest with plugs fitted. No problems. It's cylinder 3.
The check engine light flashes with ignition on, and cat warning light is also illuminated.
Did a oil/filter change, cambelt and ancillary belt changed and spark plugs changed. Tried easy start, and also tried new and currently used coils on cylinder 3 but to no avail.
Checked crank and cam sensors and seem fine.
Tried diagnostics using green plugs. All I get is the usual fans spinning and relays clicking but the check engine light is constantly illuminated.
So confused. Hours spent looking at other posts and possibilities.
Sorry it's a long thread but I am about to give up on it.
Any help appreciated to shed light on the problem, thanks.

Diagnostics mode is done with the black plugs.

The two single wire black plugs (read memory) that are in the same area as the green plugs were connected anyway. Thanks

Have you tried connecting the read memory connectors alone? What does the check engine light do in that case?

You could possibly re-check that the cambelt was installed properly. It seems to be the major thing that was changed before the issue happened.

Also if your battery is low because of all the cranking you've done you can get a non-start. Happened to me once, engine was cranking but did not start till another battery was jumpered in.

I will have to check. Seems strange after being cranked by hand. Thanks will keep updated. Just purchased a blob eye wrx with replica sti pack. Picking it up later this week. Can't wait. So this classic and another will be up for sale soon.
Cheers
