Default Alternators

Put a new battrie on my2007 wrx today had the car from new I then took it for it's mot before I left I asked could they check it's getting a charge from the Alternator and it only read just over 12 volts and they said the alternator Is on it's way out. Is this normal for it to go after 4 years?

Who did you take it to? Scoobs are fited with so-called "smart alternators", which only charge when a load is across them. Sounds like you took it to Kwik-Fit, or similar?

Take it to a GENUINE auto electrician, and ask them to test it with heater and heated rear screen on.

Sounds funny to me, as I have a MY00, still on the same alternator. And has 136000 miles on the clock.

The car wouldn't go without it & was throwing check-lights for all-sorts of can-bus faults. so I said just order one thats before I asked how much it was. I was thinking somewhere around £300 I could have died when he said it was £1055 in total but would receive £100 back upon return of the old unit.
