Default Classic 300bhp

Hi all, just bought a 93 model classic wrx saloon which i intend to use mainly for trackdays. Car is standard apart from scorpian de cat exhaust so im guessing its running about 250bhp at the moment. I know these sort of questions have probably been done to death on here but im looking to get 300bhp minimum if possible. Whats the best way to achieve this and am i right in thinking the early cars cant be mapped ? Thanks.

ecu, exhaust, filter lower it brakes, handling may be just as important as 300bhp for track...

you may want to add a turbo to that.

if you are going to trackday the car you would see better performance from an upgrade to brakes and suspension. a well sorted geometry will shave more seconds of your lap times than an extra 50 hp

Early cars (MY93-96 "phase 1") own ECU can have the ESL Live daughter board (can run MAFless, too! ) added and remapped. Will make c.280 bhp if you replace the d/p with a decatted one, first.

Your TMIC and grey 380cc injectors are limiting you to this power. A later model TMIC, or aftermarket FMIC, will allow the TD05H 16g turbo to liberate itself in the remap, but the 380cc's are touch and go whether they'll see you to 300. Seeing as you mentioned 300 min., then you'd need to fit at least yellow 440cc to get you to between 325-340bhp, instead - which is pretty much the ballpark capability of the turbo, too.

380s might just see him there if he ups the fuel pressure, but the 100% IDC will not allow for any head room

So you stand to gain the most, IYSWIM

Your gear box might not take the power you are aiming for.

Just going off my car, might not be at 100% IDC when aiming for 300bhp.

Mine made 329.4, running 380's and standard FPR, not remapped, yadda yadda, etc.

All cars are different though.

Think this is the way to go, already got the full decat, any idea of costs and can anyone recommend someone to fit these mods? I am in South Wales. Thanks for the help.

apart from the simtec, cost me £30 for 440s and then had to buy lateral adaptors £30 i think, fmic £100, and induction kit £25, you can buy some real bargains, and can good bhp figures, no need to spend £1000s IMO, all easy to fit just take you time .

I used to have decat 3" system, front mount and polar chip on my 95WRX, TBH I was never troubled on track my best around Cadwell was 1min 45sec I would say approx 280-290 bhp.

Setup is more important.
