Default Tubby Advice

Looking for some help with selecting a new turbo if you don't mind guys.........

I have a version III Type R, the engine has recently been rebuilt and is running Mahle pistons, Gapless piston rings, Arp 12mm Head Bolts, HKS induction, 3" exhaust, fmic, uprated headers and downpipe and an Apexi ECU.

I've been running the Stock tubby since I got the car and it's running 330 hp, time has come to look at a new tubby and bigger injectors but don't know which way to go.

Don't want to loose driveability for the sake of big power either, enjoy not having any lag.

Any Idea Peeps........????

Can recommend scoobyclinics billet turbos, they can deliver just about any size you can imagine with fast spool up and very nice power figures. Just love my SC46 billet.

Okaaaaaay.......
What sort of power are you after?
Also having a built forged engine (what is the full spec?) doesn't mean you can run big power as your gearbox, clutch and brakes won't like it, if you want to stick with your 5 speed box then your looking at 4-5k for a strong gearset rebuild and around 1-2k for a good brake upgrade (f/r)

The car has only covered 50k miles, 35k of these were kilometres in Japan before it came over here, the box and diff are both standard, however they feel tight and have never had any issues. I already have a brembo set up in place and don't really need big power, however my stock tubby is running 1.5 bar and it's running out of puff. Was just looking for around 380-400 bhp with a similar torque level.....

well your be best getting the sc38 or simaler and your hit 380 hp ish but your never get the same torqure back from a 2.0 at that level probally about 350-360ft 550cc injectors are what you want. your gear box may hold out for a year time to save for a nice six speed conversion which you can have for about 2 grand if you look around dude oh and lets not forget the fmic 350 from harvey smith the clutch will have to be a nice ap racing or even better a helix organic about 500 quid and dont pay more then 150 to fit it as it only take 3 hours tops

Thanks for the advice mate, been reading lots of good things about the SC range of turbos.

I already have a Helix Organic Clutch fitted, this was done when the engine got done in 2009, done less than 1k miles on it since then..........

Have thought about the 6 speed conversion, how does the gearing go on these.....??? Was out with a few scoobs a few months ago, I was keeping up with a 400 lbs of torque through 2nd,3rd and 4th gear, however as soon as he could stretch his legs he was gone......lol. I think part of the experience of the Type R is the gearing and diff ratio, do you lose this with a 6 speed conversion.....?????

So you don't lose any of the short gearing and you no longer need to drive at 60mph on the motorway cause of the noise, ohhhhh fool the tubby and get me a six speed.........lol.

Paid £475 for the clutch, fitting was included in my rebuild charge so not sure of the total cost, do you see many SC tubs going 2nd hand.....?????

Mmmmmmm, was thinking around £1600 for Tubby, injectors and Map.

Pretty tempted with a 6 speed now, get the tubby set up next winter when I have more cash as the SC46 does seem like the tubby to go for.
