Is it An Airlock
Guys
I have a strange problem, I have a classic that when idleing the temperature is fine and will sit at half way and even in traffic its fine but when driving normally the temperature will suddenly rise to 3/4 up the dial and then if I change down and raise the revs the temp will come back down, when I check the hoses the top hose is hot to the touch but not burning but the bottom hose is stone cold even if the temp is 3/4 up the gauge.
i'm thinking its either a stuck thermostat or the water pump or an airlock or the worst which is head gasket!!!
Any advice greatfully received

Change thermostat, and then fill up with coolant, allowing any air to escape, by running up to temp and then watch the air bubbles come up.
Good luck, hope it isnt gasket. But just sounds like air lock or thermostat sticking.

Thanks guys
im gonna get the thermostat changed and see if that fixes the problem, I dont think its headgasket as its not losing water out of the overflow like I have heard happens when the gaskets gone and Ive got no mixing of oil and water so must be either an airlock or the thermostat stuck closed.
I hope that the bolts come out and dont snap like when I tried to do the thermostat on an XR3i a few years ago

Could be a partially blocked radiator, your best off cleaning your entire cooling system out, see if there is any crap in the bottom hose, is the radiator warm top to bottom etc?
