Default Induction kit

Hi all,

I just checked my panel filter and its nearly had it, however after having her tick over without it i noticed a deeper voice escaping from the "stock" exhaust.

Now i promised myself i wouldnt go for mods but as it seems i have caught the contagious bug that is "more power"

My question is, if i were to fit an induction kit would it be save to run or would i need a remap?

This is my first scooby so i have a lot to learn and dont want to go at it cowboy stlye.

Thanks in advance for answers

I'd go for a up-rated panel filter mate, Green cotton or similar. I think most people will say the same, and certainly a few mappers will agree. O and you won't need a remap

Fitting an induction kit is likely to need a remap, at least checking and isn't worth the change for the gains. The original air box and a panel filter works wonders above the standard turbos capability generally.

However if you have the bug for power, then get it remapped! Best £/bhp spend.

Well if your looking for more power you are pi55ing up the wrong tree with a IK. A KnN or Green panel will give you as good, if not better gains with better filtration. The most you will notice, whether IK or panel is, as you have already said, noise.

As above, spend your ££'s on worth while mods.

Thanks for the answers guys.

I am strapped for cash, but i am looking to go for non over the top sensible mods next year which will hopefully carry me to the 350+ mark.

decat downpipe
afterburner backbox
Walbro Peformance 255lph fuel pump
remap
and prosport gauges on center pod

I may settle for an uprated panel filter at the mo, the only thing i know is missing is the infamous rumble, as my sti is still factory standard. However when i do go for mods i want to declare to insurance which will obviously sting me, but i want to do it the right way

Unless anyone knows of a company that will insure a 22 year old with 3 points and a 2006 sti?

Hi there i would recommend just remap with panel filter and decated downpipe and you will have at least 330-350bhp.
You don't need Walbro pump, you have all ready matey.

For remap you can ask here from £225-£350 for OS remap or £550 for EcuTek.
Everything depend on your budget

And forget on IK,is not worth any money, unless you are going for FMIC(front mount intercooler)

Agree with all above. If you want to get more of the rumble look at changing your backbox as this has the most affect on sound (wont do much for power on its own but it contributes along with a decat, panel filter and remap). I've currently just got the prodrive backbox and Prodrive midpipe (which removed the 2nd cat, all as part of the PPP), and straight through centre section by Hayward and Scott (£90 + vat) which has removed the centre resonator so added to the rumble a bit more, still very subtle but sounds nice Im just going to go for a decat and panel filter next plus final remap and leave it at that. Definitely dont go for an induction kit without a remap, or at least checking its running ok (heatsoak is always a potential issue with IK's too).

You should still declare the uprated panel filter, it may not cost you anything on your insurance but if you have an accident and they pick it up then they are totally within their rights to declare your insurance null and void (not classed as factory standard spec).
The standard STI backbox is quiet, worth changing that but again, get a quote from your insurance co to how much it may add to your policy (depends who your with as some will be ok and some will just bend you over and shaft you )

Just playing devils advocate here but on the induction side of things I've read loads claiming they are no good they will kill the maf etc even some mappers on here which I will accept as I'm not worried about getting one myself ,but 2 points k& n have equally proven that no maf damage occurs from their induction kits ie typhoon 69 short ram with heat shield
And my second point why once a front mount intercooler is fitted is it ok to run an induction kit , just interested and willing to learn

Because how you fit panel filter or Airbox with FMIC pipework, its not possible have Airbox and FMIC..
And i advise everybody who want fit FMIC,IK or CAIK(Cold air induction kit) will need Remap or tweak...

The MAF damage would be more likely caused by poor quality IK'S or the poor installation/security of IK's, rather than any oil contamination. Except perhaps in the case of an 'over oiled' unit on a MY99 MAF.

If you want to properly fit a good quality proven IK then go for it. The Typhoon for example would be the best part of £300 for very little gains.

Once the FMIC and it's plumbing goes in then you have very little choice. As i said, there is nothing wrong with a good quality IK professionally/properly installed.

All IMHO of course.
