Default knocking noise

OK so I did a launch last night to show some friends and this morning
I've noticed it making a knocking noise when revving fairly high and changing gear.
if any thing like a knock as the car lets off and a knock when back on power

Reckon I've broken something :/ any ideas? I was thinking diff but not sure how to
confirm or possible costs etc

Any smoke, could be anything, you need to be more specific. Engine noise, gearbox noise, drive train noise.

I don't think its engine, sounded like drive train below or behind me
no smoke that I've noticed.
I've not had a chance to do a proper drive yet
Def feels/sounds clunky

well i just had a tug at stuff and it all seemed solid

on a drive back, revving the engine there are no knocks or anything

it seems to be a lounder knock the more revs im giving it when i change gear
or if im kinda jumping the car on the throttle

im pondering engine mount now, could a hard launch kill an engine mount?

Just buy online RCM or Group N(think AS Performance selling these) engine mounts and get them fitted by Independent Subaru Specialist and not dealer mate.

pmsl ! I gave my replacement mounts to a mate when I bought the uprated ones, I should have sold them at that money !!! I bet they have charged you for the pair ? and it's a one hour job to do one mount tops !!! Yes it is fiddly but then your a dealer ffs ! you should know how to do it

Ring AMC and see what they charge for one mount (dont mention haddocks), get the part number and rip Haddocks a new arsehole if they're wrong

im pissed off heh :/
already told them the parts elsewhere are cheaper
http://www.grahamgoode.com/subaru/pa...=0&item=GGS115
even says its an original part

when i go to pick it up ill take in a copy of the above etc and check the 2 hours labour they keep quoting isnt for two mounts when only replacing one
and ill get a quote from AMC and shove that down haddocks' throat as well

my mate at works used them for ages and they have been fine with him, he reckons never charged for things he doesnt need etc

seems i just like getting screwed by garages

That is outrageous ! not even an uprated part and they want more than the STi GrpN version, mental !

Check under the bonnet before you leave as you have to undo pitchstop (remove i/c) etc to lift the engine to get to the mounts. Also ask for the mount they removed !!! otherwise you'll never know

yup :/ haddocks was 79.50 an hour plus vat
AMC want 85 an hour plus vat o.0

The labour was kinda obviously gonna tear me a new hole

the price of the part being nearly 3 times an uprated n part is pissing me off more

i shall tell them how much ive spent on my car in the few months ive had it, and how much business they have lost out on in the future!

I can't believe the amount of money dealers are charging per hour. Utterly rediculous.
I'm so glad I can do most things myself.

acstua - sounds like you had the plastic engine mounts on your car if its a 2006.

I know why would they make in plastic, see threads below!!!)
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-lite...ne-mounts.html

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-lite...s-plastic.html

I know as i had the same issue, but now have had them all changed to the Hardrace Group N engine mounts from Apex, they were available on a GB a few months back at only £99 for the whole lot. so quite cheap and reasonably priced.

It true though they are a bit of a pig to change the 2 lower engine mounts, but if your good with spanner this is a good guide to follow.

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/how-inst...ne-mounts.html

But if subaru are going to be changing them for you, make sure they fit the '05 engine mounts, as they are steel. Otherwise if they put the same plastic mounts back on again with one more hard launch and you'll end up with the same outcome.

The usual ones that go are the pitch mount under the TMIC and the passenger side lower mount.
