Lightened flywheel
Gonna upgrade me clutch and just wondered what are the advantages of getting a lightened flywheel and if it is a good idea?
Is it okay to get my OEM flywheel lightened and balanced by our local engineer or should I buy a ready to go lightened flywheel?
Also any recommendations on uprated clutch for 275bhp scoob soon to be ~320bhp
Edit-Sorry, just noticed I've posted in wrong forum

when i had my clutch done i went for a lightened flywheel but only, i think, a 7kg one,(original is about 12kg i think, could be wrong),so not majorly light so still idles fine, dont really notice a difference, think its only when you go to like 4kg a difference is noticable

A aftermarket lightweight flywheel will make a noticeable difference in the throttle response. One of the best modifications I ever made to my car.
OEM flywheels can only be lightened so much before they become weak. I would buy one off the shelf from a reputable company if going down this route.
Personally I recommend a proper forged lightweight flywheel - stronger than OEM and can go even lighter than a machined OEM one.
Take a look at this great package deal here which will be ideal for your requirements: https://www.scoobynet.com/trader-ann...-436-99-a.html

got mine a package from aztec . noticed the difference on the way home from mates garage . a lot crisper throttle responce and revs a lot quicker in each gear as you go up the box . also no judder at all with the anti judder exedy clutch , very smooth changes . apart from the vf35 i picked up off a mate for 50quid its the best money ive spent on the scoob

Too light because it does not have the mass to keep spinning at lower engine speeds and so I end with **** all torque in 4th at 30 mph. Its sh1te. 30 mph is 3rd gear all the time for me now otherwise I cannot accelerate at all. All that happens is a major case of vibrations cus the engine labours too much.
However..............Drive "properly" and it revs so much freer as in better throttle response and rev pick up.
My car is a 104k daily driver, my only car, no 2nd car. So, do the good things outweigh the bad for me? Errr, mmmm, No. If I could, I would swap it out for a 5 to 6 kg one or a properly lightened flywheel, not lightweight flywheel.
When go for a spirited drive its superb. Olly at RCM thinks i am going on about nothing. LOL
But Nottingham is camera city, so 30mph, 40 moh is the norm most of the time and to say I cannot even accelerate like a Fiat 500 in 4th at 30 mph is a joke. There is just nothing there.

just ordered a 5 kg forged flywheel from aztec
canny wait till i get it and start puting my drivetrain back in the car
as im changing the uk box/diff for a lower ratio one from an import
have the token lightweight pulleys too lol.
so i should notice a bit of a difference
im running low 300s (bhp) estimate just now too on a t2000 wagon with a bit of other weight reduction so it can shift.
