Bit of a problem I need some help with, Just got in the car to go buy some bacon for the sunday butties car opened as normal all lights on the dash as norm but when I went to turn it over I just get a click noise. I`m thinking starter motor or soleniod. I thought id see if it was the battery so thought id try and jump start it but same thing happened when I turned it over "click", I then thought well if the starter is stuck I`ll put it in gear and try and rock it free but still "click". Ive run out of ideas now im going to go try bump start it to see if this will work.

New starter or solenoid ?
How can you tell which it is ?
Would a code reader pick up this fault ?

i had a problem like this, turned out to be the starter motor, got a new one fitted and back to normal, dont know if you have the same on a newage but on my classic you can connect some wires under the steering wheel and it gives you fault codes.

 

sounds like starter motor, when mine went rac bloke tapped it why i kept trying the key and it fired up, didnt do it again for a week then it stuck again so i just bit the bullet and dropped a new one in job done!!!

 

Just bump started it and started straight up no probs at all, Not sure what it was though, I rocked the car a few times and it did attempted to fire up but It felt as if the battery wasnt strong enough to gert starter motor working. mmmm

I`ve stopped few times to see if it will re start and it does no probs. So i`m unsure what it was.....

Battery or starter ??

Sounds like a dud battery to me,if its gone jump leads usually wont carry enough power to start it.Or maybe its not earthing well enough?
