Default Idle problem?

Hi all, I have an odd problem with my 96WRX. It developed a misfire that I believe is the Idle control valve, so I am going to clean it, do I just un bolt it and spray some brake cleaner into it or just unscrew the top two screws and spray that with brake cleaner?

So that I understand it a bit better - does the ICV still work when the car is doing around 1500 to 2300 revs? I ask because my car was missing all over the place but I revved it to 6000 in third and it boosted cleanly and pulled like the proverbial train and now the erratic idle appears to have gone away!! It did run very low on petrol and I had to put in BP Ultimate but it has seemed OK since having three tanks of Shell V Power BUT I wonder if it could have sucked up some cr*p from the tank? I think a new fuel filter would be a wise move

Any advice is appreciated

Thanks
