Default Forge Dump Valve

Hi all, I purchased a forge dump valve for my x plate scooby from a fellow member on here, It bolts straight to the intercooler and when i fitted it today i was very disappointed with the noise, there was hardly any at all when i changed gear. I am wondering if it is easy to change the spring as i am thinking it is too stiff a spring inside it,my car is only a uk turbo so just wondering if it isnt running enough boost for the spring? Cheers Nick.

Spring change dead easy - there is a set on flea bay at the mo v cheap. undo the allen bolts remove spring clean it all up with brake cleaner - touch of lube around the metal ram and put it all back together. job done - should be a yellow spring I believe thats the correct one!

The dumpvalve has a job to do, it's NOT just about noise.

TBH, there's nowt wrong with the standard recirculating one as fitted by Subaru. you mess about with these engines at your peril

Hey silverscoob, you do know that on some e-bay websites, the Forge valve comes complete with a 14 year old girl to sit in your passenger seat?

LOL

I think the OP was just asking about his dump valve, Not Impreza ownership in general

.

Not taking the P**s ,but the rumble from your engine, with a half decent exhaust is enough to let most people know what car you have .
I have bought 5 dumpvalves over the last 14 months ,and i bought them because i wanted to see if the car would run better with one fitted ,not because of a noise .

Personally it is up to you ,but most people find that there car runs much sweeter with the std recirc fitted instead of a vta dump valve

Well, that's true, BUT:

If the "opinion" of members on here is that VTA dumpvalves are detrimental to the engine's running and can lead to premature engine failure, would you want to know? Or would you want us to keep quiet?

Mate, I'm not gonna dispute this with you on here. Perhaps you missed my row of smileys ?

That means what was said was said in jest.

Neither am I going to bugger about finding stuff for you about engine failure.Do a few searches, see what comes up, don't take my word for it. Obviously, you know more about Scoobs than the respected tuners, mappers etc on here, so I'll leave you to your delusion.

Sorry I did see your smilies but I wasn't just referring to you, You replied though and I quoted what you had said I have done a search and did not find any proof to support your claims and doubt I will either So I'll leave you to your own self inflicted delusions I do not need to know more than any other man if proof is provided and it looks like there is none

Question answered but to play devils advocate - there obv can be probs with VTAs potentially causing overfuelling and even bore wash (not good).
Check the mutlitude of DV VTA threads to see - these probs can be mapped out as far as Im aware though.
Im suere Andy forrest had a big thread and wrangle over just this subject on here!

Exclamation

Warning On topic post!!!

I went for the APS Dual port originally which only VTA over 4K on full bore gear shifts, this caused me no running issues without a remap for over 3 years, I now have a forge VTA which is fully mapped in using Syvecs and MAFless - I will be removing this when I change the turbo and running it blanked off however I'm not confident enough in the strength of the current turbo to risk it!

I wouldn't fit a VTA without a remap based on what I have picked up on here, don't forget the air intake is metered by the MAF which is in in the very front of the intake system - if you do VTA you lose that air to the system which is air the engine is expecting to see I cannot see how that will not cause the car to run rich. As to if it's enough to cause issues with the engine I cannot say.

Cool

Dump valves are not recommended

Loads of threads over many years about them

Most Subaru owners and purists laugh at any one with one now

Listen to the experienced posters they know what they are talking about

As pointed out the only people who like them hang around in McDonalds car parks
They also like corsas and cars with stick on tat from halfrauds

Most dump valves came with

"I'm a chav " sticker in the box D:
