Default air fuel ratio

I have an air/fuel gauge fitted to my wrx 98wagon but it allways shows it is running lean(to the point that it starts off as lean and after 10 mins of driving its nearly off the scale)
What would be causing this and how could it be sorted ???

Its only ever run on 99ron and is standard all bar the exhaust

If you air/fuel ratio gauge is fitted to the original lambda sensor, then it is unlikely to be giving you an accurate picture of the fueling as they are narrow band lambda sensors, so only read a small range around 14.7:1.

Only way to tell for sure is to fit a wideband sensor and controller and attach the gauge.
