Help with changing the sidelight on a hawkeye
Does anyone have any links for changing the side lights on a hawkeye.
I read that you have to remove the whole head unit to get to the socket (anyone confirm this at all?)

I have done mine twice, first time cheap LED bulbs then phillips ultra white bulbs. The offside was done with just the black air intake removed and the power stearing fluid bottle unclipped and pushed down a bit. The near side I just removed the washer bottle filler neck, once unfastened at the top it just pulls up and out. Both bulb holders are right at the very top of the light unit just about a 15 degree twist anticlock wise and pull back. The wires are just long enough to pull from under the slam pannel to change the bulbs, unlike me hands like a 12 year old girl would help. I would say 5 minuites a side bit of swearing, its worth a go other than that its a front bumper off to get at the bottom light unit bolts to take the units out.

Spent the last half hour trying to fit my sidelights in with no joy
Even after removing the air intake, steering wheel bottle and water bottle, access to the light is still very tight.
What makes it so hard is because you can't see the bulb holder whatsoever so it's difficult to know which way to turn it to get it out.
Why the heck did Subaru make changing a simple sidelight so damn difficult??!
How do you hawkeye owners change your bulbs?
Anymore advice very much appreciated at this point.

I found the sidelights very easy to change, the only thing I had to take off was the air intake on the offside.
The indicators though....I've wanted to fit some different ones to get rid of the orange standard bulbs. 3 years I've had the car now and I still haven't tried to tackle it.

Had another go again, spent ages but no luck.
I just can't see how to unclip the bulb holders, some are saying to twist it and some say to press on a clip but I just can't see what I'm doing because visibility is so impaired.
I was just about to give up when, after turning them on again, the driver side has blown.
So there's no turning back now, I need to get them changed!!!
Please, anybody help? pictures? how exactly is the bulb holder held in place? a clip or by twisting?
This is so frustrating, spent the best part of an hour trying to figure out how to change the sidelight and still no joy

They are awkward the first time espically if they've never been opened before, you'll need to apply a fair bit of pressure to get them to turn the first time (i did anyway)
i've just taken some pics and will get them up once they make it to photobucket.

This is the way it sits in the holder,
You need to turn it to this position,
You'll need to put your fingers in this position and apply a turning force, as i said for the first time it will be hard to get them open but once done it will be easier the next time,
Hope that has helped you out

C-Spec Nic:
Thanks for your reply. The pics proved very useful as it helped me picture what I could not see.
They were VERY tight indeed, and because I have big hands it was difficult to get a good grip on the holders.
Managed it in the end though, albeit with sore fingertips now.
So after about 2 hours for what should have been a 10 minute jobbie, I'm done
At least I know what to do next time round.

Nice pics, i was going to take mine for MOT this afternoon, had to cancel when i tried to get my fat fingers in that well restricted space and it's 26C bit hot for all that.
Give it a go tomorrow might purchase something a bit less yellow while I'm at it.
