Default variable valve bodies

Hi all, long story short, had my car mapped on tuesday and the mapper diagnosed that the avcs heads didn't work but the nps was working. The conclusion is that the variable valve bodies are seized as the nps had not been working for almost two years and because they have not been working they are seized. anyhow, the procedure is to take the varibale valve bodies out and clean them. Only problem is that i have researched about them and there is nothing, can someone show me what they look like and where they are please.

not a total novice, but never dealt with them before.

cheers.

Do you have any oil pressure ?

LOL

The solenoids sit on top of the heads just behind the cam covers, and these control the flow of oil into and out of the AVCS mechanism.

Are you sure AVCS is not working,if its not working this must trigger error codes which i know and before your AVCS has working?

Here is few links for help

This how it look:

Thanks jura, appreciate it mate.

Basically the previous owner had a new gearbox put in as the bearings went in the old 6 speed. While the gearbox was out and they swapped the wiring from the old gearbox to the new one, they put the reverse switch and the nps in the opposite holes and because of this the nps stopped working. Because the nps stopped working it also stopped the avcs heads working. The car has been like this for almost two years until i sorted the sensors out the other day. I have swapped the sensors back and so the nps is now working but the avcs heads are not. My mapper(reputable one) and garage(also reputable) think that because the heads have been inactive for so long that there may be a sludge build up and that the variable valve bodies should be taken off and cleaned. Was gonna give it a go myself but i think it's a job for me garage.

Thanks.

No they have oil feeds from the heads.

P.S. there are two NPS set-ups and they work in the opposite way one is N/O the other is N/C.

Steve if you have JDM WRX,you must have AVCS which are as standard or just visit Rich@FB Tuning which can confirm this.
