Default brake pads

whilst changing the pad yesterday, i notice that both pads had location shim behind them on driverside. But not nearside. That cant be right can it?

i got it now, they are suppose to prevent fade whilst braking. i cant see them working though tbh

They are supposed to bring the heat away from the discs and pads
