Nearly all Japanese coilovers are,as eloquently put by Sean, are hard simply becuase of the way that their roads are a lot smoother than ours

Very high quality tho, Some people say to hard for normal every day use but depends on roads etc. For the track one of the best maybe.

What if the car is only used at weekends etc, could you live with them?

As the guys above - VERY hard !
I had a set on my old V3 that was a daily runner, removed them for an STI set-up.
I guess ok for just occasional use like weekends - just stick to nice smooth roads as well !

My old 93 WRX's original Jap owner had put on aftermarket dampers (and pillow ball top mounts), and as said, the car was rock hard. I assumed the springs were std, or at least not matched, as the car bounced up down constantly. Overdamped big style - very tiring ride.

Choose dampers from well known British companies - presumably their rates are gonna be far more suited to our sh1te roads(?)

I think the std STi set-up is a fine compromise for UK roads - love the feel of my STi 5's stock set-up...

Yep personally I think it's a good compromise between comfort (relative term considering the state of our roads ) and stiffness for that time when you want to give a blast
