Stand alone ECU's
#5
I don't have a hawkeye anymore! It's for a p1 with a cosworth 2.6 stroker but I need a stand alone ecu to run the VVT and also everything else!
Syvecs must be good everyone seems to use it............
Can you just buy the hardware and map it later?

Is there much difference between the two? I have heard of some people bein able to run two maps on one ecu and having a switch on the dash to swap between track and road set ups?

Syvecs is good because it's 1600 for the cheap version. It has all the bells an whistles though. Simtek is cheaper but no knock correction (yet). Others you might try are motec, and ecutek. I depends what you want to do, how much power you want, more than 1 map, data logging, various sensors, anti lag, launch control, knock control. The list is quite compehensive. Best value for money, simtek is hard to beat for features against cost

I would want data logging and more than one map for sure. Hopefully it should be running over 700bhp I'm just waiting for an ECM
Twisted turbo kit to turn up but with no ecu I'm Not going anywhere fast! All sounds like good advice to me Hopeully I can take some picture and get them uploaded to start a project thread soon!

£1299 plus vat doesn't seem like a bad price considering what you can get it to do! I'm just not looking forward to messing about with the loom to compensate for it being a p1 running a 2.6 engine

What sort of turbo will you be using? If you are planning that much power in a classic P1 then could I suggest you do not skimp on your ecu. Go for the syvecs as in the link above. If you have spent that amount of money on your engine you would be mad not to have as much protection as possible

My advice don't **** about with the mapping. Get a professional in to to the avcs and dual maps.

It will be running a garret Gt35-42 turbo in the end and I agree with you I need to invest in the right ecu! Otherwise if it all went bang id go mad
Once the ecu is all wired into the loom then it's going to my mates workshop where he is going set up the maps I'm
Not messing about with them

Are you running a stroked 2.5? That will be some boost you will be running to get your 700hp. Take a look at the 500bhp thread in scooby general and read about the linered 2.5 engines.

If you "mate" is mapping it and capable of mapping such a setup you should be taking his advice on ecu.. not just buying something and turning up expecting him to suddenly know how to map it.
The only addition to the wiring loom would be the VVT solenoids and VVT cam speed sensors.. depending on the planned inlet manifold and idle speed control used etc which may require additional changes.
Syvecs is the best imho.

Think you may be on a hiding to nothing chasing 700. Like I said check out the comments on the 2.5 block on the other thread. Who is building the engine for you?

I'm building the engine myself but RCM are supplying me with the parts. In defends to the jolly green monster I was only asking what was the opinion
On the best stand alone ecu systems I will ask my "mate" what he thinks but a little research into it by asking people who all own subarus before that conversation won't do any harm will it?

Yeah I think your right to be honest but like JGM says aswell it might be easier using a custom loom because it is stripped out anyway at the moment. I just can't seem to get my head around the electric/loom side of this build shoul all be worth it in the end though!

No it never hurts to get some info, but your mate will need to be on his top game to map such a hybrid. No too many 2.6 with avcs heads out there. He will need to know exactly what he is doing and be familiar with programming whatever ecu you eventually go for. How many big power subarus has he tuned? What's his track record like? If you are spending a boat load of money on that sort of build I would want the best mapper available to look after my engine. I am not slagging your mate I dont him from Adam but I am just saying be very careful or it will all end in tears
He is quite experienced he used to map the Jordan F1 cars and has had a fair bit to do with mapping high powered cars I don't know if you have heard of it but he works for a company called track'n'road in Essex sort of near lakeside I have used him before and he had always been top notch!

I would recommend the Syvecs as well ... it is a very good ecu and considering all the features included it is very good value for money when compared to the likes of a Motec.
I would suggest you get your friend to download a copy of the Syvecs software and have a look through a calibration (I think there is a basic calibration included with the software or available off the Syvecs site). If he knows what he is doing from a mapping point of view then he should be able to find his way around the ecu quite easily. However you may find it quicker an easier to get someone who works with the Syvecs ecu's regularly to fit and map it.

I'm running a link g4 extream on my hawk engined project mapped by bob rawle and its great has all the launch anti lag multiple maps etc etc, good support very well packaged and fast delivery which can't be said for all of the others availible! Mine was the first one in uk for v10 scoob and is a fantastic bit of kit.
