Default battery trouble

helo guys, iv got a 97 turbo 2000, over the past few weeks the battery has been loosing charge, last night a drove about 12miles to my parents, left the car outside for about an hour. went to start completely flat, jumped it and drove home, wondering if its just the battery or alternator, i would of thought if it was the alternator the lights wouldnt work properly due to it giving power to battery. any advise would be great thanks.

You need to fully charge the battery and then check it whilst its off the car, it should be pushing about 12.7v if in very good condition, if its pushing 12.2 or below then its knackered and you need to change it, just leave it for a few hours after you have removed the charger and dont put it back in the car.
If its got good charge then put it back in the car, start car up and see what its running at, it should be a good 14v, if its still 12v then I would say your alternator is duff, but have that confirmed by a garage
