oil consuption
My 1999 UK Turbo Wagon doesnt need a drop ever.
Change it at 6000 mile intervals and its always bang on maximum.
Thats with 107000 miles on an all original engine.
I would like to think its because the engine is in very good condition and not suffering undue wear.
Probably go bang now having said that.
So no your not on your own.

Very good
My MY97 never used a drop either.
Oil consumption is hit and miss - later cars do use more oil due to the later piston design/materials. As well as wear and tear taking its toll. For examaple we have also two BMWs; both with M54 engines, one uses oil, the other one doesn't.
Only thing to watch for is oil being replaced by unburnt petrol getting past the piston rings. You can tell this by the smell of the oil compared to fresh. If it has distinct petrol-ish smell to it, its time for an oil change.

Factory engines don't tend to use as much oil because they run cast pistons, which don't expand with heat as much as the stronger forged pistons and can therefore run tighter clearances with the bore reducing oil consumption.
