I have a blob eye spec c and am moving to germany so will want to convert over to german plates and am wandering what is different about the LHD headlights?

Are the lens different? Is it just an internal difference? can they be adapted? does anyone have a pair for sale?

Any info great fully welcomed

 

Modern headlights with a clear lens generally use either a multi-facet reflector, or a projector to focus the light.

The projectors are often used for dip and SOME are adjustable for left/right dip.

Multi-facet reflectors are NOT adjustable,but can be altered temporarily by putting tape on the front lens to cut off the kickup part of the dip beam.

This will be ok for a while but WILL NOT pass an MoT type test in whatever country you are in, the only acceptable solution being a new set of lights.

Check breakers and/or e-bay in germany, holland, france etc etc. Dealer prices will be an arm and a leg.

Using RHD lights on a car when driving on the right will dazzle oncomming traffic, and is illegal without beam adapters. The same applies to LHD cars driving in the UK (doesn't stop the Polish/Romanian truckers, but that is no excuse). Beam adapter stickers are only intended for temporary use, so you are going to need new headlamps to pass TUV checks.

Spanish yokels have been known to take baseball bats to the headlamps of UK cars found without beam adapter stickers, quite rightly so IMO

 

The French police went through a number of years checking ALL vehicles leaving the ferries at Calais. If you didn't have an OBVIOUS beam adjuster, you got pulled.

AND it was a €90 on the spot fine for failing.

Strange they NEVER checked any lorries though

 

If you are moving to Germany you will need LHD Headlights.
Because you have a JDM car, it will be difficult getting it through TÜV. The lights will be your smallest problem.

First question for you mate, do you speak German?
I am 100% sure that there is not one Blob Spec C in Germany, so you will have a very hard time getting it registered over here. Subaru Germany wont help you out on paperwork and as the car has a JDM VIN you will have no luck with places like Dekra. You will need to go through a lot of single tests like emissions etc before it gets TÜV approved, that wont be cheap. You can try and get it through TÜV as a normal Blob Sti, all you need for that is a COC Document from Subaru, but they are issued based on the VIN of a car, which obviously wont match yours.

 

Much the same problem in France. Buy European or suffer for it.
