Default 1.6 from 2wd to 4wd

Hi all, i own a 1600 gl saloon. When i bought it she'd been sitting for 2 years so needed quite alot of work. I got her up for an mot and it faild on a few bits, one being a rotten rear beam. Tryed to find somone selling a rear beam with no diff. I couldnt so opted for the 4wd optin. Got everything on axel, diff, diff casin, prop box etc but as my engine only had 75 bhp as standard i dont want to put it back in and let it struggle. So i wanted a newer ej161, Does anyone know which year they changed from the ej16 to the ej161. Its just as i can get an engine out of a 1999 1600 cheap. So didnt know if this was an ej161????
Thanks
Luke

(ps cant change engine to 1800 or anything larger as im 17)

tbh mate i would give your engine a good rebuild, new clutch, etc etc, to get as many hourses as possable, why not do RWD just remove the 2 front driveshafts i mean it's worth a try i don't think the gearbox will leak but not sure, and a RWD drifting scooby u will have lol,

haha, i like your style, i was gonna try rebuild thinner head gaskets to higher comp ratio, i was debating weather or not to go for a 2.0L bottom end as it will then take it to a 1800. but not sure
