Default new head gasket HELP

I have a 2003 blob eye and i am based in macclesfield and i just took my car to get a new Rad as it was leaking before he has done anything he said that the head gasket had gone which has caused pressure int he Rad and its not the Rad which is the problem its the head gasket.

I need advice on where to go and ideas on how much this will cost.

i can get the part cheap enough but its all about the labour and i have a bad feeling this is going to cost me,

any help would very greatful and i am clueless where to start as most garages seem to run away the second i mention the job.

Default Oh no!

I feel for you mate. Same thing happened to me at the beginning of december. Although my rad had gone too... anyway, the parts are pretty cheap, but I got mine done at a subaru dealer (i know but i was desperate and I don't know any decent mechanics), and they quoted 12 hours from their book, therfore it'd cost 900 quid in labour! so just over a grand altogether.

whilst it was in bits, i was also told i need cam belt tensioners (and all the other bits), a clutch (Exedy on there now which is miles better than the old one), a new rad and a few other bits and bobs. ended up costing 2 grand altogether!

But, if you shop around you should be able to get a much better labour rate and get it done for 200-300 quid less.

I should add that I'm down in herfordshire, and I know labour charges vary with region. just make sure you shop around.

yeah pressure test is a must. don't they also check for fuel in the coolant or something? another symptom of the head gasket going.

tubby, are you even reading my posts? head gasket cost a grand, the other stuff cost another grand. and no, not more money than sense, i just love my car. it's not gone wrong in the five years i've owned it, then this.

oh, and to add more fuel to the fire, a few weeks on my gearbox went. that cost nearly a grand to sort too. still, that's what credit cards were invented for...
