Default Bugeye wrx tuning.. Exhausts, cats

A mate recently bought a bugeye wrx and wanted it over 300bhp so I've given him a list of bits.

I'll be fitting all the stuff when it's all here but was just wondering if the bugeye wrx uk has a cat in the up pipe? Sure I read it was.

I have a straight through up pipe here if needs be but thought I'd ask here as i won't see the car until I need to fit bits and need to know if I'll need headers to up pipe gasket too.

Hoping for a lot better grunt than the stock wrx lol, they are slow! my bugeye jdm sti feels like a rocket in comparison.

List is

Td05 with front entry conversion
Blitz cotton panel filter
Walbro fuel pump
Wr1 sports cat downpipe
Magnex resonated centre and magnex back box
Decat up pipe (if it needs it)
3 port boost solenoid

Hoping he'll see 320bhp

That's good power there!

Think the exhaust will limit us a bit here as he wanted to keep a cat for mot and roadside checks (don't blame him really as I'm the same now)

Yes there is a cat in the uppipe, you have to leave the EGT disconected. When you have it remaped the CEL light can be turned off

I know mate, I was saying ? As I didn't think we'd need pinks for 320bhp but I (wrongly) assumed bug eyes ran 440cc injectors like the last of the classics... Wrong! Bugger, 380cc's by the looks of it.

So are sti injectors the right physical size and shape to direct fit? He's gonna love me lol

This is going to make things a pain as I was going to fit everything and let him drive it on actuator pressure (and carefully) if it's a few days before mapping. Was ok on my last car as I had power fc and knocked e fueling down a bit myself. Can't really do that.

Hmm

If they are 440's I'd expect they'd do better than 300bhp at 110%

My old my00 had 440's and had 1.45bar on a vf35'up it's chuff.

Surely 440's will max out at 330bhp?

So conflicting info here as to size.

Low boost and 300bhp doesn't sound right at 110% duty on the injectors to me? I'm sure I remember my uk turbo on 440's being in the mid 90's for IDC at 1.45bar on vf35 on my power fc hand commander.

What boost are you running on the vf34?

Do you have an updated fuel pump?

Hi there std WRX injectors are 440cc,which will be maxed on 320-330bhp(but with FPR you can run little more),but 330bhp is little bit optimistic.
Again every engine is different,on some engine you will make around 330bhp with same setup and same mapper and 350bhp on different car with same setup and same mapper.

I ran 325 BHP on my UK bug with a front entry TD05 16G. I'd personally splash out the £100 on some STi pink injectors and run an STi top mount to reduce pressure loss.

I'd also have a word with harvey about ported headers and a matching up-pipe de-cat. The TD05 might be old school but can flow enough air throgh the engine to trouble the up-pipe cat...........lunch the up-pipe cat and it goes straight into the turbo

It will need mapping so ditch the EGT and blank off then MAP out the CEL

Cheers gents.

Shaun, I'll be ditching the up pipe cat, I have a straight through one here.

I do have some spare headers too. I ported a set for my old type r but don't want to spoil him!

I probably could get him to go for pinks and an Sti top mount but it's an extra £300 and the turbo isn't gonna have much more than maxed 440's anyway. Plus mapping might not be timed exactly after completion of work so I wouldn't want him running around on bigger injectors etc

If we went pinks and Sti intercooler can't help thinking vf34 should go with them but where do you stop!

Your 440s will max around 325 bhp and your turbo, if it is any good is good to 340-350 with ALL supporting mods before that too is maxed out. Pinks max around 365-370ish and all mods is with a total decat and ported headers and matched uppipe.
Don't just fit any uppipe. The design of the uppipe is will disproportionately influence spool, response and overall performance.

Harvey, I'll be using a STD up pipe off a classic Impreza.

Need to speak to simon as the guy I'm doing it for said he's been in touch with him and he's told him he'll max out at 310 on STD injectors.

Damn sight better choice than a catted up pipe. Plus it's sitting here already and he'll get it for free. I might even get my die grinder out.
