Car will be approx 380-400 bhp when im finished the mods. My car will be used mainly for road use and the odd trackday. I am using 5w-40 fully synthetic for road use.

To fit the cooler you fit a sandwich plate[preferably thermosatic]beneth the existing modine which then has 2 pipes leading to the cooler,it does drop the oil filter position by about 2" though so certain types of header designs won't allow the use of sandwich plate as the exhaust pipe's runs through that location on the off side.

its only needed when temps are an issue, mine were at high 200's, as long as thermostaicly controled then all good.
Saying you 'def dont need it' isn't true at all, its a case of seeing what temps your getting and going form there

Do you have gauges fitted, if so are they mounted in the block, or with a sandwiichplate between the modine and the oil filter.
If they are mounted in the block (or don't have any)just mount a thermostatically controlled sandwich plate between the modine and the filter, and run hoses from there to the cooler. If you do not have A/C you can hang the cooler behind the grill, if you have airco you can mount the cooler in front of the rad, you only need 2 angle brackets.
If you have gauges, and they are mounted with a sandwich plate, you would need to remount them, so they sit directly in the engine (or take a massive gamble, and run 2 sandwich plates).

With those oil temperatures fitting one would not be neccesary at this time.
What power are you running now??, in other words how much HP are you removed from your 380/400 hp goal.
If you are at 350 or so now there won't be as much extra heat, if you are sub 300 now the extra power needed to get to your goal would create more heat, and I would look into a cooler now. (Would be silly to have access to a complete 2nd hand set now, and having to pay for new stuff in half a year)

With those mods you'll be pushing 280-290 tops, so to get to your ultimate gola another 100hp has to be produced.
With your current oil temperatures fitting one would be something I recommend.
Make sure the sandwich plate is thermostatically controlled, though.
