Default ECU guidance please all

So i have the option to buy an ecu control board for my hawk. Tuned by Bob Hawke at ECUTEK. It is 2nd hand and just consists of the board, no case etc. Anything i should be looking out for with this, is built to up it to 330 BHP, or there abouts, which sounds ideal. Is it wise to pick one up 2nd hand??

Any/ All help/ words of wisdom greatly appreciated

Thanks all....

Forget it - it's been maapped for another car and its bespoke aftermarket engine mods (if any).

The best route is ALWAYS to get a remap for your OWN car. Each car is like a person - totally unique. So to get the best from the map, it needs to be a tailored bespoke job, exclusively for your car. That way it'll be totally optimised for driveability/power/torque.... And in total safety as regards the boost/ign. timing/fueling.

Your car's own ECU can be "got at" via its own EcuTeK remap, which Bob, or any other competent mapper on this site, can carry out...

Hi there depends if its for your car this ECU and how much. But you will need tweak your(or this which you want buy)EcuTek map and this depends on mapper, how much and prices are from £150-£250
Or you can get car properly mapped for £300 Open Source Remap or 550£-650£ for EcuTek Remap, depends what you want.

As your car is a DBW (drive by wire) you would have to check to make sure that the ECU came off a similar DBW car, an ECU off a non DBW will not be any good to you.

Assuming that the ECU is compatible then you would save the Ecutek licence fee but you would still have to have it programmed to your car ie custom map and keys.

And Bob's full name is Bob Rawle.

It MAY work out cheaper if you do indeed buy that ECU... So long as it's cheap enough in the 1st place!

The reason being is that its 1st time licence has already been paid for, so if a "tweak" to its existing map is all that's required to match it to your car, then it'll be around £200. So, therefore, as long as you get the ECU for signifcantly less than £400, then it'd be a worthwhile saving (i.e. a full remap + licence on your car's own ECU = £600+),

But beware, this other ECU may still need a "full" remap to match to your car anyway!, which would set you back <=£400, so wouldn't be worth it, all said and done.
