Average price for an early saloon around £1700
Average price for an early wagon around £1500
Cost to make one into other I would guess around £1000 to £2000
Go figure.....

there not worth a great deal anyway at the minute especially old ones. the car has been debadged so i dont know what issue number it is either.
i bought the car in march off a mate who had it for 5 yrs.
the engine was rebuilt at 95k (new crank £528, acl race bearings £115 + £70, and so on to £2,400 in parts). ticks like a swiss watch to be fair. rest of car no so good.
ive replaced isc valve, knock sensor, oil and filter 4 times( done 17k since march) complete brake fluid flush, sti air filter, replaced discs calipers and pads al round with later spec 4pots n 2 pots, bc coilovers, front wheel bearings, thermostat, abs tone ring, front drop links, rear droplinks uprated to whiteline steel, hawkeye 17" rims and set of wheel nuts, 4 wheel alignment, g/box and rear diff fluid change, coolant hose kit and coolant flush, oe recirc dump valve, 2 sets of tyres. im at 127k now, so will be leaving engine alone until 150k when it will get a strip and rebuild. it could now do with a respray
i love driving this car, have done most of the work to it myself and now know it well. we can all say our car has this or that and most people im sure are talking fact, but this car drives solid, everything works like it should and im never gonna get back what ive spent on it, especially once it been sprayed but,
i need the space of a wagon!!

That's another good idea.
I can only think that if you do go ahead with your plan, even if it comes out looking absolutely brilliant be prepared to keeping it forever as no one will ever buy it.
There are plenty of quick wagons out there and as his-n-her says above the other option is buy a cheap wagon.

No one on this thread has gone in with all guns blazing and called the OP names for doing what he's planning and i'm pleased about that.
All the comments have been sensible suggestions to save him the ball ache of destroying 2 cars to make one just because you need more room.
Please don't go with you're original plan because no one will buy it afterwards.
If you can afford to buy a cheap wagon then do that and keep your saloon unmolested and a pleasure to drive.
Buy an STi wagon and sell the saloon.
Just 3 suggestions that the guys at Scooby net have come up with to stop you wasting your time and money to create something that already exists.
