Engine suddenly running on 3 cylinders, help please!
Hi people
Car is a v4 type-r
Cars been running sweet for ages, started it up this morning and drove the 5 miles to my dads place (all fine) parked up for the 2hrs I was there, went to leave got about a mile down the road and noticed all was not well.
Car feels and sounds like its running on 3 cylinders for some reason
Im guessing something like plugs / lead problem, had a quick look under the bonnet and couldn't see anything untoward, oil fine, coolant fine, all connectors fine, earth strap fine
Fair bit of snow here yesterday if it makes any odds, spoke to scooby mechanic I know and he said he's known of leads coming off plugs before in the past, I'll check that tomorrow but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas if this isn't the problem
Thanks

Right the ht lead nearest the battery did pop back on the plug so must of been not connected properly, still running rough tho
Where it was not receiving a spark would it be flooded where I drove it home on 3?
Would a gentle drive clear it?

Was fine all day, then on the way home started playing up again, whipped the bonnet up pushed all the leads in but didn't feel like any were loose, went for a spin and eventually kicked back into good health again,
Anyone else suffered from this?

Right update....
Bloody car keeps playing up!!
Pulled the leads off one by one and no.2 didn't change anything so that's the culprit, put it back on and started firing on all 4, result I thought...
Changed the plugs for some new ones, started it up went for a drive and after a 20min warm up the 1st time I started to show it some boost, it resorted to running on 3 again!!!!
Does this sound like a dodgey lead?
To top it all now a new noise has appeared when going from lock to lock a loud "ca-duuuung!!!" can be heard
Really losing Patience with this car now!

Did you gap the plugs properly mate? Also if you do short journeys without it getting warm it might have oiled the plugs. I've just had this with mine but mines been stood for months. I whipped the plugs out, cleaned them, put them into the oven for an hour then cleaned (again) and gapped them before putting them back in. Its never run so well. I gapped mine to .65mm as its running higher boost and colder plugs.
Hope this helps
Andy.

I take it the magnecor kv85 leads that are on the car are uprated ones and not oem yeah?
Should I replace like for like or go for oem leads, can't really justify spending £100 on magnecor ones!

When I pull the leads off you can clearly see the spark coming out of the coilpack to each of the leads, does this mean the coilpack is fine and the lead is at fault?
I might know someone with a spare lead so I'll try before I buy

Right, put new leads on, started it up, all fine. Problem solved!
Took it for a good hour long drive, running spot on when on / off boost in all gears.
When to take it out today, 5 mins gentle driving down the road and we're back on 3 cylinders again!!! Arrrrgh!!!
Does the coilpack fail and that's it or can it be intermittent like my symptoms?

Could it be something like a dodgy injector or faulty earth, was totally fine last night and now it's playing up again
I'm guessing it's gotta be electrical as one day it's fine and not the next, loose connection of some kind?

Are the injectors easy to get at on these?
Is it possible the injector wiring is faulty and causing it to stay open or closed?
I did go over a speed hump yesterday when it reverted back to 3 cylinders, so the jolt could have moved something slightly?
Anyone?

Right 99.9% think I've found the problem,
Swapped injectors no.2 & 4 over and the misfiring cylinder has moved from 2 to 4 so it's gotta be the injector.
Can somebody tell me what standard injectors a version 4 1997 sti type-r has so I know what I'm asking for please
Am I asking for a side feed 440cc, just unsure of what phase or which rail it's for 1 / 1.5....???
Anyone got one for sale?
